The entirety of human genetic material is stored in 23 pairs of chromosomes within each living cell of the body. Each chromosome contains thousands of genes that carry the information necessary for protein synthesis. Of the over 3 billion DNA base pairs that make up the human genome, more than 99% are identical for all humans. The biological particularities of each individual, their uniqueness, and distinctive physical traits are determined by less than 0.1% of the genes. To form new cells, an existing cell divides into two daughter cells. During cell division, the process of replicating the existing genetic material (stored within the DNA) ensures that both daughter cells receive a complete set of genetic instructions. This replication process does not always produce perfectly identical copies of the original material, leading to variations in the DNA sequence at specific points. These variations, also known as "single nucleotide polymorphisms" (SNPs), are the primary focus of genetic testing.

For example, two DNA sequences from two different individuals: A A G C C T A A A G C T T A DNA molecule 1 differs from DNA molecule 2 by a single base pair (C/T polymorphism). Depending on the presence and type of variation, the SNP may indicate: - a reduced predisposition - an average predisposition (same as the general population) - an increased predisposition This means that genetic testing results will not only reveal weaknesses but also strengths.
